Love Japanese Style Like We Do
Elevate your mindfulness practice with this Buddhist temple vintage singing bowl, a truly unique addition to any meditation or spiritual space. Resting on a luxurious, brocade cushion, this piece is accompanied by a traditional striker, perfect for creating soothing, resonant sounds that bring peace and clarity.
In Buddhist temples, similar pieces are placed on offering tables for prayer and worship within the temple Hondo, or main hall, where the object of reverence is enshrined. This set includes a beautifully crafted orin (singing bowl), a zabuton (cushion), and a rinbo (striker) - each piece adding to the serene energy of your practice.
The orin is hand-forged from beaten bronze, with hammer marks creating a random, yet harmonious dot pattern around its lower edge. This medium-sized, weighty bowl produces a higher-pitched resonance, lingering in the air and filling your space with peaceful vibrations. The burnished brown surface shows signs of use from years of daily temple prayers, revealing patches of lighter bronze where the dark brown patina has gently worn away, adding a warm, comforting depth to the piece. The interior holds subtle traces of candle wax, reflecting its rich history. There are no dents, ensuring the integrity of its sound remains intact.
The zabuton cushion is a patchwork of rich red, royal blue, and gold brocade, with a central red tassel that draws attention to its intricate beauty. Designed to support the heavy singing bowl, it provides a secure and stable base, keeping the orin balanced and perfectly positioned. The cushion is in very good condition, enhancing both the visual and functional appeal of this set.
The rinbo striker features a lacquered reddish-brown handle with a soft suede striking section. The handle bears the marks of time, with gentle scratches and dents from its use, while the suede has darkened and developed a patina, further adding to the authenticity and charm of this set.
This lovely Buddhist temple artifact is perfect for meditation, yoga, and relaxation routines. It’s sound and presence will help deepen your practice and create a peaceful atmosphere in your space.

ORIN GONGS
Japanese Buddhist singing bowls are called, ‘Orin’ or ‘Orin Gongs.’ They are used for prayer and worship in Japanese temples. In temples, the orin gong is used with a small hand bell, a set of gongs and a stone or metal plate. Small orin are used at homes for private altars (Butsudan). Orin are placed on colorful cushions called zabuton.
Orin gongs come in a variety of sizes. Generally the bigger the bowl is, the deeper the sound becomes. Traditionally orin were used to accompany chanting and meditation. Nowadays they are used for the same purpose and also for music making and meditation as well as for relaxation and personal well-being. They have become popular with music therapists and sound healers, yoga and meditation practitioners.
