Love Japanese Style Like We Do

Infuse your home with beauty, spirituality, and history with this Japanese antique Buddhist brass flower plate. Traditionally used in Buddhist ceremonies, this stunning piece represents purification and protection. Whether displayed in your home or meditation space, this unique and meaningful item adds a touch of sacred elegance to any setting.

Known as a Hana Zara, this antique plate was historically used for placing ceremonial flower petals to be scattered in the Buddhist Sange ceremony. The fragrance of the petals was believed to purify the space and ward off negative energy, fostering an environment of peace and mindfulness.

Made from solid brass, this plate features beautiful cut-outs and etchings of lotus flowers and leaves - symbols of spiritual awakening and purity. The back of the plate has three rings, to which long, brown cords with brass ends and delicate dangles have been attached. Additionally, the name of the temple where it was originally used has been skillfully engraved into the plate, adding a layer of historical significance.

The antique plate is in very good condition for its age, with minor signs of wear, light scratches, and the natural tarnishing that only enhance its character and charm. While some of the small dangles are missing, the plate's inherent beauty remains intact. The cords, which have naturally faded with time, can easily be removed if you prefer to display the plate alone.

This Hana Zara plate makes a stunning addition to any Buddhist art collection. Its symbolic power and delicate design make it an ideal centerpiece for meditation spaces, altars, or as a meaningful wall display.

- measures around 27 cm (10.6”) in diameter.

SANGE RITUAL
Sange is a ritual based on a tradition where people and heavenly gods scattered flowers to celebrate the descents of Buddha.

At Buddhist memorial services held in temples, flowers and leaves are scattered to make offerings to Buddha. The sange at Buddhist memorial services is intended to ward off evil and purify the place of Buddhist practice or meditation by the scent of flowers. Sange is accompanied by chanting.

Originally, lotus and other fresh flowers were used but today lotus-shaped colored paper is used instead to make offerings to Buddha.

At Nyubutsu Kaigen, a ceremony to consecrate a newly made Buddhist statue, and at Rakkei Hoyo, a service to celebrate the construction of a temple, a large amount of sange is scattered, making an impressive scene. Some people even collect sange.
